Youth Empowerment: A step to building our Nation

The Youth Empowerment Project for the Edo youths in Massachusetts was inaugurated in August, 2005.This program, organized by the Benin Club of Massachusetts, set a tone of harmony as these youths gathered together to enjoy the company of each other and to uphold the dignity of Benin heritage-culture and traditions. Without any doubt, it was a time to remember, and I do consider being a part of it a privilege. When it comes to progressive matter such as youth empowerment, it does require work. This work should come from the efforts of everyone; I mean you and me. That is why I applauded the Benin club of Massachusetts for such an effort to invest in the lives of our youths.

Empower means “give power to,” according to Webster’s dictionary. In this light, youth empowerment connotes aiding to build, strengthen, and enforce our youth. Looking at the youths as the strength of any community, and of course the power-house of the nation, it does place a call for everyone to get involve in this investment which will yield long term dividend. To repudiate from this task of empowering our youth is not an option!

The many ways you can be part of this project includes, but not limited to, volunteering time, funding future projects, moral supports, encouraging your children to enroll in future projects, etc. I encourage all to become part of the 17th Edo National Association 2008 Convention by participating in one way or the other; we would love you to be part of us. Akugbe- oretin!
